NSG 4405 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: National Ambient Air Quality Standards, Air Quality Index, Environmental Health
Document Summary
Air quality index (aqi) = computed by the epa based on measures of the ver criteria for air pollutants. Ambient air = air surrounding placer structure and also referred to as outdoor air. Ambient air standard = mechanism to evaluate the current air quality. Area sources = smaller sources of emission such as gas stations, dry cleaners, commercial building heating and cooling, railways, and waste disposal facilities. Bioaccumulation = accumulate in the body over time. Built environment = human made surroundings created for the daily activities of humans, re ects the range of physical and social elements that make up a community. Community environmental health assessment = public health and environmental health professionals and agencies partner with community members, organizations, and each other to identify, prioritize, and address environmental health issues. Criteria air pollutants = national ambient air quality standards set for major air pollutants > carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, particulate matter, lead, and sulfur dioxide.
