Monday, October 9, 2017 CRMJ 352 Class 17: - Conditions: Pretty much like a contract, divided into standard and special conditions • Types of conditions: - Fines - House arrest - Treatment for substance abuse - Counseling • Can be challenged if it’s does not relate to the crime - Has to be doable - Cannot restrict constitutional rights • Following conditions are vetoed (not reasonably related to the crime): - Old examples: • Best way to use marijuana is to get your hair trimmed • Abstinence of alcohol so can’t be convicted of crime • Restraining someone from playing professional basketball because of a certain crime - In the prison system, if you’re actively involved in different levels, then you get X amount of points per month that can be used for early release • Referred to as compliance credits - Complying with the rules can lead to early release, need approval from judge • Some judges do not
