Document Summary
International organization (a government) infrastructure, regulate society, and maintain order. Domestic support/legitimacy-states usually lack this, in absence of conformity states collapse. Diplomatically recognized-other states recognize states the state. Once a state acquires sovereignty there is no taking it away. Chronic disorder, high crime, widespread violence, inability to address basic human needs of population. Problems readily become international in scope, conflicts spill over boarders, criminals take root. The states existing sovereignty keeps other states out. Nation-state- national self determination, the idea that people sharing nationhood have a right to determine how and under what conditions they should live. Irredentism- joining another state that is populated with fellow ethno nationalists. Internal sovereignty-ultimate authority, a king, a monopoly of force. External sovereignty-no higher authority exists outside the state. States are functionally equal and all sovereign- power became currency and no higher authority. Anarchy- the absence of supreme authority, every state for itself, states want to cooperate, defining goal is national interests.
