PSYC 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Disengagement Theory, Personality Development, Moral Reasoning
Document Summary
3 levels of moral development, 2 stages each. Each stage is universal (doesn"t take cultural context into consideration) and in a set order. Postconventional (most people believed to not reach these) Moral reasoning vs behavior- situational factors may be a better predictor of moral behavior than a person"s moral stage. Cultural differences- may be more reflective of an individualistic culture. Gender bias- may emphasize more typically male values. Temperament- an individual"s innate disposition or behavioral style and characteristic emotional response (nature-born with it) Slow to warm up (need time to adjust) Have to match their nature with a good fit of nurture for a baby to grow up successfully. Individuals pass through 8 development stages, each with a crisis to be resolved (erikson believed you need to go through one to get to the next) Difficult to scientifically assess (can be different from person to person) Stage labels may be more appropriate for an individualistic culture.
