Learning goals: describe two contemporary perspectives on socioemotional development: Bronfenbrenner"s ecological theory and eriksons life-span development theory: discuss how the social contexts of families, peers, and schools are linked with socioemotional development, explain these aspects of children"s socioemotional development: self-esteem, identity, moral development and coping with stress. Bronfenbrenner"s theory- focuses on the social contexts in which people live and the people who influence their development. Microsystem- direct interactions with parents, teachers, peers, and others reciprocal interactions where the student is hot a passive recipient of experiences in these settings. Mesosystem- linkages between microsystems such as connections between family experiences and school experiences, and relationships between students and peers. Exosystem- at work when experiences in one setting (where student does not have an active role) influence what students and teachers experience in the immediate context. Indirect influences on the child student- school board decisions. Choosing dates of when school will start and stop. Principles say students can"t have new books.
