Document Summary

A criique of poliically correct language- brain o"neill notes. Poliically correct language does not reduce ofensive behavior, it tends to do the opposite. It does not ix the intended ofense when bullying someone. The problem with this drive for poliically correct language is that it atempts to deal with the problems of negaive semanic change by out lawing accurate descriptors rather than to use them with proper context and tone. The requirement for avoiding semanic change is not as simple as just replacing words; it is to coninue to use the exising words in certain circumstances that make it clear that there is no negaive connotaion that is intended. New descriptors do not chose poliically correct terms that retain the old terms" clarity and accuracy. The progression of poliically correct language has been away from more speciic and accurate descriptors and towards more euphemisic and inaccurate ones.
