Occupations people participate in after they retire (part time potential work) Labor force participation: overall trends are different for men and women, decline in wages for men overall. As men participation is declining earlier women is not: intermittent work histories for many women, racial & ethnic differences throughout the life course. Cash work / flow: these trends have consequences for retirement. Not enough quarters recorded when someone retires to get social security. Border between work / not working stages of life: no longer necessarily a permanent departure from the workforce. Someone can retire from one job and then start working for another job. Ex. job in military have to retire at a certain age and then hired back as the same thing different title: bridge jobs. Stand during full employment to full retirement. Staying with same employer but reducing hours or responsibilities.
