Unconformity - gaps - surface that both represents significant missing time and had a sedimentary unit, lava, or ash laid down on it, or is the modern land surface. Uniformitarianism - past event obeyed current laws of physics/chemistry. Intrusion - surrounding rock formed first: superposition - bottom layers formed first. 2: horizontality - sediments collect horizontally, any angle is later tilt, crosscutting - surrounding rock formed first, continuity - layers once extended further. Absolute dating - historic records, layer counting (like tree rings), radiometric dating.
