At the council of pisa there are now suddenly 3 popes pope alexander v: council of constance called by the emperor tried to end the great schism, session from 1414 17, 3 popes were either deposed or resigned, new pope was elected martin v, council had to decide how the succession would work apostolic succession, declared other popes to have been anti popes, determined that the papacy leading the church has been too problematic, decides that leadership should be decided by church council conciliar movement.
