Parliament is dominated by the land owning aristocracy. Halts import of foreign grain until the price of british grain had reached a certain price to ensure that british producers would not be outsold by cheaper producers. This leads to an immediate rise in bread prices, so this is terrible for a lot of the population. It becomes even harder to survive for the poorer classes. 1817: british government suspends the right of habeas corpus which guarantees individuals fair and speedy trials. The kings popularity matters to their rule. George had little popularity after the treatment of caroline of brunswick. They had a bad relationship, would spread rumors about each other. Caroline returned to england in 1820 and was welcomed by the subjects well. However george tried to persuade parliament to consider divorce proceedings against caroline. Bill passes the house of lords, but it doesn"t pass the house of commons.
