Czechoslovakia; 25% were germans, many other nationalities as well; created with a huge minority population in order to formulate defensible borders. Italy gets italian iradenta but doesn"t get whats promised. Nationalism was problematic in areas with large minority populations. United states owned the most money by allied powers: determined for the 1920s to get their money back. Germany owed the most by the central powers: no hope for germany getting any debts back because the countries no longer really existed. 4-apr-16: destruction of entire villages, dislocation of 2 million people. Many states want to redevelop their economic strength. Create insulated markets that provide automatic customers for goods produced in the state. High tariffs on imports, goods made in the country will be cheaper than those from other places. Causes significant stresses as the world economy is trying to revive itself. French wanted payment and to never fear germany again.
