Document Summary

Key features of each lung including lobe structure and and anatomical relations, and components of the lung roots. 3 lobes superior, middle, and inferior. Horizontal fissure that separates the superior and middle lobes. Oblique fissure that separates the middle and lower lobes. The middle lobe is against the heart. Lobes are separated by an oblique fissure. The lingula (from the upper lobe) lies against the heart. Pulmonary veins are the lowest structures the primary bronchi is more central (slightly higher in the r) The apex of each lung is against the cupula (dome of the parietal pleura) The anterior part of the lung is against the 6th rib, the lateral part is on the 8th rib and the posterior part is on the 10th rib (remember 6, 8, 10) The costodiaphragmatic recess of the parietal pleura extends 2 ribs below the lung margin (site where fluid and blood can accumulate) extends to 12th rib posteriorly and 10th rib laterally.
