Candida albicans is responsible for 90-100% of mucosal isolates and. 50-70% of bloodstream isolates (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) 4 species of candida cause 95% of all bloodstream infections. A frequent colonizer of skin and mucous membranes. Found primarily in then gi tract from mouth to rectum, but also in the vagina and urethra, and underneath nails (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Found in the environment on leaves, flowers, water, air and soil.
