Document Summary

Principles of design: pattern: pattern is the repetition or reoccurrence of a design element exact or varied that establishes a visual beat, elements or motifs often repeat in a predictable manner. Principles of design: rhythm/movement: rhythm is a combination of elements repeated, but with variations, can be broadly categorized as random, regular, alternating, or progressive. Principles of design: balance: an equal distribution of visual weight in a design. Visual balance occurs around a vertical axis; our eye requires visual weight to be equal on the two sides of the axis. Humans are bilateral creatures and our sense of balance innate: symmetry formal balance, has equal weight on equal sides of a centrally place fulcrum, asymmetry, go back. Principles of design: unity and harmony: unity is achieved when the components of a design are perceived as harmonious, giving the work a sense of completion. When all elements are in agreement, as design is considered unified.
