Document Summary
Motivation: stimulus or force directing behavior, thinking, and persistence. Incentives: associations that motivate behavior, positive reinforcers, negative reinforcers. Instinct theory (maintain homeostasis: we act according to biologically-based, inherited drives. Hunger: biological factors: biochemistry, many chemicals involved, when glucose falls, hunger starts, stomach and liver signal, thermogenesis (keeping warm, brain, hypothalamus regulates eating and drinking, polydipsia. Biological factors: stomach, relatively inactive when empty. Chapter 9: motivation and emotion: can experience hunger without the stomach, receptors detect nutrient levels, pressure receptors signal satiety. Mindful eating: eating with intention while paying attention, eat less, savor more, eating while distracted may cause overindulgence, taste perception weakens when performing mentally taxing tasks, delete multitasking at meals, food might taste better!
