Basically: it is the ability t use knowledge: make decisions, make sense of events, solve problems and understand complex ideas, learn quickly and adapt to environment. Typically, we use standardize test because they are easier. General intelligence: stanford- bient test (iq) Intelligence quotient iq: developed by wilhelm stern, index of intelligence. (mental age divided by chronological age) * 100: mean is about 100, most people in the range from 85-155. Measuring may cause people to think they are smart and then they may give up because they know they are smart: or it may cause people think they are stupid and they won"t try. How valid is iq test: small correlations: Iq and complex requiring complex skills: it"s a fairly good predictor of life outcomes. Some cultures don"t value the same things. Most measure what is important in western culture: isn"t so simple. Determine level of intelligence and then rank all people, there are different types of intelligence.
