Document Summary

Bio 200_evolutionary biology-lecture 3: mendel and basic genetics. The physical resemblance between family members used to be thought that the traits were blended between the parents to form their offspring. The problem with this thought is that overtime all organisms would start to look alike. He ended the acceptance of blending as the solution. He was educated in a monastery and failed at getting a teaching degree. Instead he started plans to study the traits of plants (sweet peas) This means these plants would breed true (all offspring will look like the parents) In this experiment mendel focused on color. The true breeding plants were purple and when two purple plants are crossed, all of the offspring would then be purple. These plants do not breed true these results end the idea of blending. Mendel took two purple plants and instead of the true breeding plants mentioned before these plants produced two offspring with white flowers.
