Red blood cells (only last 3 months, constantly being produced) Neural tube development - 1st few weeks of pregnancy. Anemia (megaloblastic) large, immature red blood cells. Neural tube develops in 1st month of gestation. Defect occurs when spinal column or skull don"t form properly. Type - spina bifida - failure of neural tube to close. Sources - enriched pasta, cereal, rice and beans, dark leafy veggies, breads, orange juice, all woman of childbearing age 400 ug/day. Prohormone works like a hormone, sends signals to organs. Helps in absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the gut, kidney and bone.
