Leibniz was a philosopher, physicist, historian, linguist, and mathematician. He was worried about the problem of evil. That story is fine for minnow inconveniences when they lead to total. But it"s harder to see how ebola or the holocaust will play into it. If we could just get a god"s eye view of the universe, and see how the whole tapestry of events fit together . We"d understand that the way for god to maximize how much good there is overall includes allowing for things that seem like gratuitous evils. bliss.
