Document Summary

Recall that there are 3 characteristics used to describe distributions: Central tendency - measures of central tendency tell you about the most typical scores. Variability - provides a measure of the degree to which scores in a distribution spread out or cluster together. Three distributions with the same central tendency (mean), but different variability. B = (4, 5, 6, 7, 8) C = (6, 6, 6, 6, 6) Determine how representative a particular score is of the entire distribution of scores. Range = url xmax - lrl xmin. Where url is the upper real limit & lrl is the lower real limit. Range = 9. 5 2. 5 = 7. Determined by the two most extreme scores. Here are two distributions: c = (5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 19, d = (5, 6, 7, 12, 17, 18, 19) The range and mean are the same for c & d: Range = 19. 5 - 4. 5 = 15.
