Measures of central tendency: while distributions give us an overall picture of the dataset, it is useful to represent properties of the entire data set using a single statistics. Centraltendencystatistics/parameters: measures that describe where the center of a distribution of scores is located. Measures that represent the most typical or most representative scores in a distribution. Mode: the most frequently occurring score in a frequency distribution/data set. Especially if looking at a histogram with ungrouped classes. Is an actual value in the data set. Leads to question of which mode is more representative. Median: the point in a frequency distribution that separates the top 50% of the scores from the bottom 50% Half of the scores lie above the median; half of the scores lie below the median. Mean: the sum of the scores in a distribution divided by the number of scores.
