Document Summary

Controlling movement on the right side of the body. Right hemisphere - perceiving and synthesizing nonverbal info. Controlling movement on the left side of the body. 4 variables that complicate laterality research e. g. , right hemisphere also has language capabilities. Laterality is not absolute - both hemispheres play a role in almost every behavior. Cerebral site is just as important as cerebral side. Laterality is affected by environmental and genetic factors. Laterality is exhibited by a range of animals e. g. , left-handers. The left hemisphere extends further posteriorly but left contains more gray matter relative to white. Right hemisphere is larger and heavier than the left. Right = more area in gyri; involved in tone of voice. Left = more area in sulci; involved in grammar. Planum temporale (wernicke"s area) - larger in the left hemisphere. Haschi"s gyrus (at) - larger in the right hemisphere. Slope of the lateral fissure is gentler on the left hemisphere.
