What are some words that you think of when you hear race and racism? . Race and racism is an attempt to make sense of culture, religion, and the categorization of people. Once you categorize groups, you identify good and bad traits. At first it"s implemented to show the difference in people. Symbolic interaction: assigned symbols that imposed & all that we know are based on one classification. Race - a group of people who share physical and cultural traits as well as common ancestry . (golash-boza 2015) Racism - refers to both (1) the belief that races are populations of people whose physical difference are linked to significant cultural and social differences and that these innate hierarchical differences can be measured or judged. (golash-boza 2015) Paternalism - the need to show someone the right way to do something. Racism has a logic and institutional racism. , making it seem as rational and objective, thus justifying a hierarchy.
