Document Summary
Personality=a consistent set of characteristics that people display over time and across situation. And that distinguish individuals from each other: durable dispositions (optimistic, honest- consistent characteristics that define you in some way) Super factors are less predictive of behavior than the traits that go into each category. Situationalists-there are no such thing as traits and people appear to have traits only because we see many people in similar situations. Interactionism-the combination of situation and traits and how they interact with each other play a role in personality. Biological theory-personality comes from genetics, there is something internal that determines who we are: hans eysenck-genetics and physiological differences causes the differences between traits, sheldon-body type is related to personality. Body types and personality in 1940s and 1950s. Body types: somatottype-how your body looks, endomorphy-tendency towards plumpness, ectomorph-tendency towards thinness, mesomorph-muscle.
