The myth of climate neutrality- carbon on setting as an alternative to carbon offsetting. Ipcc said that increasing rates of ghg emissions will cause global warming to spiral out of control if we don"t change our trajectory soon. They said business, politics and education are not enough to maintain a livable planet. Good news: colleges are working hard to reduce emissions on campuses and have more sustainability classes. Bad news: many schools have picked the "low hanging fruit" and are finding that reducing carbon emissions beyond the first 15-20% is much more difficult beyond 50%. To achieve climate neutrality, there are 15 million metric tons of co2 emissions that will need to be addressed. Carbon offsetting suffers from critical challenges in the vcm that make the expense hard to justify because of: Inadequate pricing: pererse incentives and limits to how we think about and respond to carbon emissions.
