Jan 29 A meteor 35 mil years ago created the Chesapeake Bay. It landed in Cape Charles and  created a crater Then the Ice Age had glaciers forming and melting led us to the basic form of the bAy.  Then the river valley drowned 18,000 years ago the climate warms and then the Chesapeake Bay really starts to  maintain life.  Exmore Channel­>Eastville Channel­> Cape Charles Channel (18,000 to present) Glaciers form and sea level lowers. They drudged the land so large ships can come through, maybe this undoes the natural  runoff sediment deposited in the river. Drudging is digging and deepening the river. The Chesapeake Bay is EXTREMELY shallow compared to its area. The Chesapeake  Bay has a lot of land that is right next to it.  (It touches 6 states, 64000 sq miles. It has 5 major rivers.)
