Ureters transport urine from kidneys to bladder. Urethra excretes urine from bladder to outside of body. Functional kidneys are developed by the third month. Urinary system of a newborn: bladder is small, urine cannot be concentrated for first 2-3 months, void up to 40 times a day. Control of voluntary external urethral sphincter does not start until 18 months. Complete nighttime control may not occur until four years of age.
