Theory: a set of constructs/concepts that are linked together by relational statements that are internally consistent with each other. Model: a simplified picture of a part of the real world, a set of interrelated guesses about the world. A set of systematically related generalizations suggesting new observations for empirical testing to explain or predict. Model: to describe and imagine relatively and undeveloped/preliminary form of theory. Given meaning through theoretical definitions (interpersonal influence) Vary in levels of abstraction (persuasion, interpersonal influence, salesmanship. No one operation definition captures the full meaning of a theoretical concept. Difficult to create an operational definition that represents only the construct intended. Conceptual definition- sharing information that other would not normally know or discover (craving or need for food) (love) Operational definition- how much one provides others with information about oneself, how often they say things about themselves (the amount of adversity the person will go through to obtain food) (frequency) (how can you measure love)
