Had insomnia through grad school because he was worrying about his family members. He embraced what was going on with this. So the reader has the experience of insomnia, it"s like you are living inside of a movie (he is a movie nerd) Last poem to go in manuscript, editing until end, hardest poem to write. Written at a time when he was strung out as a poet. Baraka said poems are bullshit unless they have teeth. Relation to father, who was not a writer, but may have laid out a foundation by exposing to culture. You have to work with it for a long time (this poem) Come to you quickly at the very end. They are living, breathing things, you have to be in touch with what they are. Came as a response to a charles symmons poem about 1950. It would be fun to put some poems in a film.
