May not work as hard to save the relationship like married couples do to save theirs. Parents may even urge their living-together- children to split up in order to pursue more important things. If couple suffers sexual difficulties they will just split up bc its easier to abandon a problematic relationship than to change it: marriage make a commitment to each other and the marriage. Marriage becomes another entity that enters the relationship between these 2 people. Each person will do many things to save a marriage give up dreams, work, ambition, extra marital relationships. Would rather cohabitate instead of marry bc it allows them to remain financially dependent. 1: traditionally, heterosexual marital roles male goes to work, woman stays home to take care of the kids, nowadays, both people need to contribute financially, married have more conflict around issue of work than cohabitated couples.
