Appellant: party that brings an appeal (lost on that issue) Appellee: the party who the appeal is brought against. Federalism: sharing of power between federal and state courts. Stare decisis: (cid:498)to adhere to that which has been decided. Certiorari: a writ of review or a petition for review to us court. Issues: legal question the case asks the court to decide, will be yes or no, not a factual issue but a legal issue. Holding: answers the questions raised, including the courts reasoning for why decided. Dissent opinion: the judge disagrees with the majority the judge agrees with the majority but for a different reason. State law on state issues- statues & codes. Couple breaks up, woman sues him for money she felt he owned her from the relationship and subsequent breakup. She claims he breached the agreement (cid:498)provide with all her financial support for and needs for life. (cid:499)
