1990-mandela released from prison, framework for new constitution built. Modernization/professionalization of apartheid (cid:498)municipal administrators(cid:499) bypassed to create one overarching system. Persons living in/near the rand & vaal begin stay at homes, nov 3/4, 1984. Uprisings produced from unionization and recruitment of youth into movements. Masses would gather at funerals (as religious assembly was legal) Unrest would occur after funerals out of high emotion/rage. Unrest would grow so large because government lost full control of parts of. For 6 days, youth had control of alexandra. National military mobilized with hippoes/caspers (armored vehicles) to take. Public shaming/murdering of persons, publicly reported as (cid:498)black on black crime(cid:499) Thieves/witches treated same=not just a way of thinking, but there was (cid:498)something in them(cid:499) Army was seen was more helpful than police. Attempts to put zulu homelands on map as part of social change. See everyone as zulu, not zulu, instead of south african. Organization for someone to belong to in order to oppose apartheid.
