Abraham geiger and the new type of a rabbi. Prayer is a performance in rabbinical judaism, doesn"t have to do with. Traditionalists in hamburg opposed the innovations in the temple: tried to involve government authorities (said community has final. Reformers claimed they acted as members of a private association, claimed say) they shouldn"t be under supervision of community: it should be subject to supervision. Traditionalists insisted that they temple is in effect a communal synagogue. Both sides approached the hamburg senate for a solution. Senate verdict: since the temple did not employ a rabbi, it should be considered a prayer place of a private association: no supervision needed. Opposition: religious court cannot force anyone to do anything but they declared that it is forbidden to pray in the temple: changes in the liturgical formulas, prayers in the german language, musical instruments on the sabbath.
