KNES 385 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Motor Learning, Unobservable, Pectoralis Major Muscle
Document Summary
Must make predictions about results of future observations. Theory may have answers to these issues but also presents new problems. There is no one theory that doesn"t have limitations. Perceptual motor integration problem: sensory motor integration= same thing. Dof: # of independent elements that need to be controlled. So many elements that the cns has to constrain. Motor redundancy: multiple to solutions to achieve one goal: affords us the flexibility of having a choice in how we carry out a task. No one right way to achieve a goal because more dof than necessary to achieve a task. More dof= higher reaction time (duration between stimulus and onset of movement) Example: assume all joints are controlled by only 2 muscles, arm has 7 dof, 14 degrees of freedom in arm, commands have to dictate all 14 degrees, reality, 42 muscles in one arm/hand.
