Animals being used for food and living on factory farms endure great amounts of suffering. Animals being used for research also undergo considerable suffering. Subjected to experiments that include: infecting with diseases, poisoning, maiming, blinding, withholding of food and water, electric shocks. Bc we are speciesists - our interests as a species are more important than the interests of lower animals. The interests of animals are to be taken into account and given the same weight as the like interests of human beings. Basic principle of equality - the interests of every being are to be taken into account and given same weight as the like interests of any other being. ; if a being has in interest, then this the identical interest must be taken into account and considered to be as important as interest of any other being. It provides the best explanation of why morally wrong inegalitarian views are morally wrong.
