LECTURE MARCH 27 (TUESDAY)
RC CIRCUITS
A circuit containing Resistor R and Capacitor C, hence the name RC
Charging of Capacitance C by Battery via Resistance R
Close switch at t=0. The current I turns on. There is a charge Q on C, hence Voltage across C is
still 0
  
 
     

Goal: What is the I, Q etc from t=0 to infinity. We split E by Kirchoff’s Loop Rule
The Loop rule says to start at the negative terminal and go clockwise
    

Both Q and I changes with time

 
Combining a and b, we get Q=0 at t=0 and Q=CE and t=infinity


 


