PSYC 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 36: Reuptake, Limbic System, Brainstem
Document Summary
The nervous system: body"s speedy, electrochemical communication network consisting of nerve cells. Peripheral nervous system: sensory and motor neurons that connect the cns to the rest of the body. Somatic nervous system: controls voluntary muscle movement by utilizing motor neurons. Autonomic nervous system: controls the automatic function of the body and is divided into the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Sympathetic nervous system: arousal of the body. Accelerates the heart rate, breathing and dilated pupils. Slows down the body after a stressful event. Endocrine system: set of gads that secrete hormones into the bloodstream. Neurons individual cells in the nervous system that receive, integrate, and transmit information. They are basic links that allow communication within the nervous. Soma cell body of the neuron that contains the nucleus and much of cells normal organs. Dendrite parts of a neuron that receives information. Axon long fiber that transmits information away to other neurons, muscles, or glands.
