Psyc341 introduction to memory and cognition class notes. It is perception//making sense of the world around us. Pre-socratic, it"s developed over many years however (15% in the last 100 years) a lot in 1958. The empirical investigation of the mental process, and activities used in perceiving, remembering, and thinking, and the act of using those processes. Examines the processes that manipulate sensory input. Examines how we transfer, reduce, elaborate, store, recover, and use sensory information. Theory experimentation statistical model conclusion theory. Theory computational model experimentation statistcal model conclusion . Within psychology: social psychology, clinical psychology, i/o psychology. Outside of psychology: artificial intelligence, engineering, human interaction. Academic influences such as philosophy, art, linguistics, behaviorism. Social cultural influences such as world war ii. Socrates rationalism: knowledge is reduced from careful deliberation and logical proof. He also believed wisdom is the knowledge of ignorance. He believed there is an apparent world vs. a material world.
