Multicultural psychology includes lens of culture, justice, and equality. White supremacist whose college experiences led to ideological change. Dialogue: listening to understand one another, collaborative working towards a shared understanding, spontaneous, demonstrates empathy and respect, equality, ultimately changes or expands one"s point of view. Social identities created in context that confers differential access to resources. Results in more power/access to dominant group, limits access for oppressed groups. Stereotypes support system of differences at psychological level. Identities and their meanings are socially constructed, and can change over time/context. Psychological science science of predicting, explaining, and changing thoughts, feelings, and behavior: personal characteristics or values learned from family.
