Job satisfaction - pleasurable, positive emotional state resulting from cognitive appraisal of one"s job/job experiences. Emerges when job is perceived as fulfilling needs or providing what is wanted. Pay/income positively related to overall job and life satisfaction but there"s a plateau point where ~upper-middle class & up no longer benefit from positive effects of having a higher income. Could be because once money meets needs (maslow), higher. Consequences of job satisfaction income doesn"t do much for people"s feelings about life: slightly because other variables also have influence (e. g. ; control, motivation, personality, performance. Happy/satisfied workers only slightly more productive, but tend to engage in higher levels of ocb"s/contextual performance: withdrawal behaviors. Absenteeism/attendance - happy workers slightly more likely to be at work every day. Lateness - happy/satisfied workers slightly more likely to arrive to work on time. Turnover/attrition - happy/satisfied workers slightly less likely to turnover from job.
