Explores the relationship b/w social facts( facts, concepts, expectations that come not from individual responses and preferences but that come from social community) and suicide. Suicide is a largely a function of social circumstances, social relations and social structure. Anomic : related to moral confusion and lack of direction; a perceived inability to meet goals established by society(social facts) through the means that 1 has available to them. Egoistic : not enough social attention ie: bullying. Altruistic : too ingrained in a group or movement ie; colade up guy or suicide bombing. Men are more likely to follow through than women. Women are more likely to attempt suicide. Most of our experiences are a part of our socialization experiences. Organizations and institutions are dependent upon socialized people to help them persist: school, boot camp, internship, church, school.
