Document Summary

Stage one involves investing energy and stage 2 results in energy recovery. In stage 1 1 molecule of glucose is converted into 2 gap and 2 atp are used. In stage 2 2 gap are converted to 2 molecules of pyruvate and 4 atp are recovered and 2 nadh are recovered also. 2 atp invested for one glucose molecules and 4 are recovered! Step 1 = hexokinase and this is classified as a transferase. Step 2 = pgi and this is an isomerase which is concerned with intramolecular group rearrangement. Step 3 = pfk = transferase and does phosphorylation. Step 4 = ald and this is a lysase which does group elimination to form = (not through hydrolysis tho!) Step 5 = tim and this an isomerase which does intramolecular group rearrangement. Step 6 = gapdh and this functions is an oxireductase which functions with redox reactions. Step 7 = pgk and it is a transferase and dephosphorylates the molecule.
