The science that seeks to understand the behavior of matter by studying the behavior of atoms and molecules. Are the fundamental building blocks of ordinary matter i. e. h, o. Molecules- two or more atoms attached together in a specific geometrical arrangement: attachments are called bonds, attachments come in different strengths. Bonds are all not the same strength i. e. h20 (polar bonds) Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass. Classified based on its state and its composition: states of matter: solid, liquid, gas(volume of the glass it is in, scanning electron microscope can pick up these nano particles. Matter can be a pure substance or a mixture: pure substances are substances that have a set composition with a distinct chemical composition. Pure substances can either be elements or pure compounds. If it is separable into simpler substances it is a compound, if not it is an element. Pure substances do not combine different compounds.
