Geothermal energy provides promising path to a sustainable future. Geothermal resources can be either heat sources or cold sinks for energy generation and/or conservation. The university of miami submitted a proposal for a massive, efficient, geothermal a-c system, for jackson memorial hospital complex, which would have been funded with federal stimulus money . Iceland, california, other places near hot rocks or magma, provide a sustainable heat source for electricity production, space heating, or hundreds of other purposes. Geothermal resources are attractive as renewable energy sources because they"re available 24/7 regardless of wind conditions or solar insulation. Geothermal energy thus can be a practical alternative to nuclear energy without the radiation hazard or nuclear waste disposal issues. In spite of these clear advantages, geothermal remain the least exploited renewable energy resource globally. At present, we globally produce about 11gigawatts of electric power and 28 gigawatts of industrial/space heating from geothermal sources.
