In the 1960s and 1970s, the safety and security of research participants was an issue. Deception: technique in which the researcher misinforms participants about the true nature of what they are experiencing in a study. At the end of a study the true nature is disclosed. They may do this because the participant may not be completely honest with them under full disclosure circumstances. Confederate: exposed participants to a trained member of the research team. Confederate follows a script designed to give participants a particular impression about what is going on. Irb for human participants (also one for animals) Make sure the welfare of participants is protected. Composed for scientists, medical professionals, clergy, and other community members. Risk/benefit ratio, which weighs the potential risks to those participants in a study may have for advancing knowledge about humanity. Not feasible to research the entire population, so a random sample is researched.
