The traditional family: when people think of the traditional family they conjure up images of the 1950s, stephanie coontz argues the breadwinner/homemaker family isn"t all that traditional or normal, problems: Caused unprecedented levels of anxiety and depression among women. Child abuse, spousal rape and spousal abuse were tolerated, hidden and ignored as a critical social problem. The blended family: blended family formed when at least one of the partners in a marriage has been married before and has children from a previous marriage/relationship, major challenges of blended families. Money difficulties stepfamilies have divided incomes. Gives women a feeling of self worth and independence. Less likely to feel the depressions that come with an empty nest . Positive role model for the children (boys and girls) Takes pressure off the husband as the sole provider . Forces the father to become a more active parent.
