Different types of Societies

Mechanical Solidarity
1. Hunting + Trading = rely on hunting + gathering
2. Pastoral = raise domesticated animals ex. Mongols
3. Horticultural= small scale domestication of plants
Organic Solidarity
4. Agricultural= produce surplus= population are not restrained
5. Industrial
6. Post Industrial
Mechanical vs. Organic Solidarity = Emmanuel Durkime
Mechanical Solidarity= Society in which parts are replaceable, low division of labor.
1. Small = approx.. 250 people
2. No surplus of food = dependent on blow much
a. Hunting + Gatherers= only hunt and gather what they can eat
3. Mobile = move when the location cannot provide for them.
4. Low division of labor
5. No written language= because they are very mobile
6. Informal dispute resolution= eause they do’t hae las.
7. Diverse Diets= will eat anything they can find
Organic Solidarity= Parts are not easily replaced= greater speculation
1. Larger population
2. High Division of labor= people become more specialized like a scribe
3. Sedetary= Ca’t ove
4. Surplus = more food than necessary grows population
5. Written language= more specialized labor= scribe
6. Formal Dispute resolution= they have laws & courts
7. Homogenous diet
