Ethics of research: ethics- protect participants from psychological studies. One deals with humans and one with animals. Human subjects- irb: the irb are worried about protecting your rights: informed consent, confidentiality, and right to withdraw and debrief. Animal subjects- iacuc: the iacuc is responsible for excellent and humane care. They need to minimize pain and distress, consider alternatives and avoid unnecessary duplication. Animals don"t have a choice to participate so they need to be treated equally. Biopsychology: psychology- scientific study of behavior and mental processes, biopsychology- the biological study of behavior and mental processes. They study the brain because that is what controls your behavior and mental processes. Cells of the nervous system: glia cells- glue! When cells where first identified they were glued on a: neurons- the basic signaling cell in the nervous system. They receive and detect information, go up to brain, where they are stored to created part of a neuron.
