Ethical rules are not permanent but depend on the stage reached in the historical evolution of a society. Cardinal ethical rule - to treat each man as an end in himself and not merely as a means. Basic unity of matter gives rise to egalitarianism. Traditional african standpoint accepts absolute and independent idea of matter. In a colonial situation - negative action outweighs positive action.
