COMM 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Communication Theory, Scientific Method, Layoff
Document Summary
Research: a set of systematic procedures for gathering credible information about some object or process. A secondary search, info that"s already out there. Some object or process= ex. messages, history, planet, solar system. Anything can be the subject of this procedure. The study of speeches, everyday convos, tv programming, what you find on the internet. Transfer of info form one sources to another. Theories and models of communication are the ways in which research is typically formatted. A theory is an explanation verbally of some aspect of message related behavior. A model is usually going to be a picture or a graph or image of the same information that is presented in a theory. Components of communication research: 4 parts of a typical research report: Theory(explanation of whatever it is that you"re studying), method(what was done, how the study was conducted), results(what did you find), and discussion(an interpretation of the results). These help organize the research as its presented.
